Anxiety is what fear becomes when we hold onto it for too long, or when we feel negative emotions about future events that haven’t happened yet.
HaShem made fear to propel people (and animals) to take quick action in dangerous situations. For example, if a lion is chasing a gazelle, the gazelle will feel fear and run away.
If the gazelle escapes the lion, its fear will soon subside and the animal will resume its normal behavior as if nothing ever happened.
We people are a lot more complicated than gazelles. Our depth of emotion, character, and memory present us with unique challenges.
One of those challenges is the tendency to hold onto fear long after a stressful event has passed. The fear can morph into long term anxiety and plague people for years.
Anxiety can cause numerous problems, including:
- High blood pressure
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Muscle pain
- Insomnia
- OCD
- Weight gain
- Hives
- Allergies
- Asthma
- Auto-immune conditions
- And more…
So, what can you do to treat anxiety? Stay tuned for my next blog post…
